She opens the group chat with Yasmijn and Julia and types a message.

Lola: The final chapter of my thesis! If I pull this off, I'll celebrate tonight with LOTS of wine

Tapping away at her laptop, Lola is working on finishing her research paper. It’s due in just over a week, so she’s under a lot of pressure. The spring sun streams in through her window.

On the bulletin board above her desk are photos of faraway countries.

DIARY ENTRY

I'm 21 and have never been farther than France on a school trip.
All those countries on my bulletin board… when will I ever get to see them?

Always being good little Lola, doing exactly what's expected of her.

Who knows, maybe it's time for something crazy.

Lola leans back and stares at the ceiling. When was the last time she did something really exciting?

She picks up her phone and scrolls through Instagram. Everywhere she looks, there are photos of people traveling.

This idea won't let me go.
It feels like everything is falling into place.

Now or never, Lola.

The idea is starting to take shape more and more in her mind.

A few months of backpacking.
Working on the go.

To be free.

A few hours later, she's sitting with Julia and Yasmijn at De Gouden Engel.

‘Okay, listen,’ says Lola.

She takes a deep breath.

This is the moment.

‘Why don’t we just do it?’

‘What are you doing?’ Yasmijn asks.

‘Travel,’ says Lola.
‘Real travel. A trip around the world. Six months.’

Julia almost chokes on her wine.
Yasmijn stares at her.

‘We can do this,’ says Lola.
‘We’re done with school. We can work on the go.’

She can feel it.

This is no longer an idea.

This is a plan.

For a moment, it's quiet.

Then they start laughing.
A dream come true.
To daydream.

Australia.
New York.
Thailand.

Everything suddenly seems possible.
